| Special Events
and Activities As part of our
mission to build community-minded, responsible young men, Pack 96
sponsors several special events. Some of these are service oriented
however most are just plain
fun activities.
Check the Pack Calendar for specific dates. A general list of upcoming events
includes:
Recruit Night -
In early September Pack 96 holds a fall recruit night at the
St. Michael Catholic Church Hall building. Brochures are usually handed
out at the Russellville grade school and all Den Leaders try to attend
with the Cub Master or Assistant Cub Master, Charter Representative,
and/or Committee Chairpersons. This is a great night to hear about what we
do and to meet these leaders and sign up your child to join Pack 96.
Cub Mobile Races -
In the first part of October the Five Rivers District holds its annual Cub
Mobile race near the capitol building in downtown Jefferson City. The race
is run down West Main Street, and each den has or should have a Cub Mobile
per 5 children, which allows each child to race twice that morning. The
2007 Five Rivers
Race Rules are posted HERE, with Specs for
building a Cub Mobile.

Raingutter Regatta-
In October Pack 96 holds a Raingutter Regatta boat race at the
Monthly Pack meeting. The Raingutter Regatta is similar to the Pinewood
Derby except that the models are miniature sail boats. Although the seas
are only 10-foot lengths of raingutter filled with water, and the ships a
mere 6 inches long, the race is a very exciting event. Each boy builds his
own boat with supervision and help from parents or other family members.
He also provides the wind for the sail with his own lung power.
The regatta boat kit, available from Westlakes Hardware or the Scout Shop,
has a pre-shaped balsa hull, metal keel and plastic sail. The hulls are
sanded and shaped, and are colorfully painted. Hull and sail are then
decorated with decal kits or paint. The boats race in pairs on raingutter
courses propelled by the boys blowing into the sails.

Popcorn Fundraiser -
Every Fall, the Great Rivers Council organizes a fundraiser for its
units to participate in; selling
Trails End popcorn. This is a great way for packs, and the boys in
them, to earn some money. The product is excellent, there are neat sales
incentive prizes available for kids to earn each year, and best of all for
unit leaders, it is simple, The council provides the materials needed to
conduct the sale, offers training through the districts to show adult
leaders how to conduct it, and helps keep you on track. Pack 96
will hold a kick-off meeting and a "show and sale" meeting in early
November to help everyone reach their goals.

Eagle Days -
Join us for a great winter activity as Pack 96 is planning on meeting at the Mount Olive church parking lot
on Sunday Jan. 6th at 12:00 noon, and then driving to Willmore Lodge at
Lake of the Ozarks. Missouri's winter eagle watching is spectacular, and
we hope you'll join us to view our national symbol in the wild. If you
can't make it to the
Eagle Days event, look for eagles in the wild from late December
through early February, watch for eagles perched in large trees along the
water's edge. View early in the morning to see the eagles flying and
fishing. -

7th annual Blue & Gold ceremony at the Russellville Elementary School
Cafeteria, in
which Webelos cross over to Boy Scouts and other scouts who earned rank
advancement will obtain it. This is a great family event where parents and
grandparents are invited to attend. During this banquet we have award
ceremonies, and even a guest speaker. We also celebrate the birthday of
Scouting which started February 8, 1910. If you have any additional
questions please contact Amy Miller at 291-8826

occurs on March 1st and 8th. All dens are required to participate as
this is one of our annual community service projects. With the help of
local postmasters and visits to neighborhoods, nonperishable food
donations are collected and then delivered by scouts to the Central
Missouri Food Bank. We pickup
bags Saturday March 1st at the St. Michael Church Hall parking lot,
and return the bags with food the next Saturday March 8th.
